Boater dies Saturday on Lake Martin

A man died Saturday after he was thrown overboard on Lake Martin, law enforcement officials said. A Pell City man was eastbound on Kowaliga Bay about 5 p.m. Saturday when he was thrown from a 30-foot Sea Ray Sundancer he was operating between Castaway Island and Wares Slough. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division said another vessel in the area recovered the victim and took him to the Kowaliga public ramp near Alabama 63. The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, Russell Lands Security and Kowaliga Volunteer Fire Department also responded to assist, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities had not yet released the man's identity. No further information was immediately released as troopers continued to investigate the death.
