PALM BEACH, Fla. — Alabama Governor Kay Ivey made her way out of the state Thursday to meet with many of the other Republican governors and President-elect Donald Trump at his Florida Mar-a-Lago estate.

Trump invited a number of governors including Alabama Goc. Kay Ivey, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, and Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte were just a few in attendance. In all, 22 of the 27 Republican governors were in attendance.

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte told reporters outside the gathering that some of the GOP governors unable to attend were being inaugurated, and that one was delayed by snow and was unable to make it to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach. But he said attendees who could come were “thrilled to accept the president-elect’s invitation” and welcomed a coming “collaborative, working relationship, which we have not had for four years” during the Biden administration.

“It’s been a long period without cooperation from Washington,” Gianforte told reporters outside. “So, we’re looking forward to the new administration coming in. We have a lot of business to get done on behalf of our states. We’re just pleased to be here to meet with the president.”

The dinner came after Trump held a lengthy, closed-door meeting Wednesday with Republican Senators on Capitol Hill. Trump described his discussions with his senators, as “a love fest” but added, “This is a love fest, too.”

Reporters that were invited to Mar-a-Lago on Thursday asked the group of governors to weigh in on the incoming administration's agenda, as well as their roles.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told reporters, "I think the president has a unique opportunity to deliver big wins for the American people,"

"As part of that, his agenda, which I agree with wholeheartedly on, reconstituting the military away from the social agenda and towards being able to deliver lethal force, to be able to deter our enemies and achieve peace through strength is vitally important. I want him to be able to succeed in that," said DeSantis.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey was not directly quoted in the report Thursday, but according to a summary from Gina Maiola, the governor’s communications director, the following statement was issued Friday afternoon:

Governor Ivey returned to Montgomery late Thursday evening after a productive visit to Mar-a-Lago with President Trump and her fellow Republican governors. The governor is making clear Alabama is eager to support the Trump agenda and ready to work with the president to continue advancing Alabama. During the few-hour visit, the governor keyed in on areas like border security and immigration, economic policy, and education, Maiola said.

The following statement from Governor Ivey:

“I am grateful for President Trump’s invitation to join him and my fellow Republican governors for a wide-ranging discussion and dinner at Mar-a-Lago. President Trump is prepared to get to work for the American people on day one, and I am more optimistic than ever for our country. He assured us he would begin reversing bad Biden-Harris policies on his first day in office and that we would address major challenges from illegal immigration to our student’s education. President Trump is smart, knows the facts, and is prepared to take America into our ‘Golden Age.’ It is an honor to continue working with President Trump over these next two years to deliver for Alabamians and Americans alike.” – Governor Kay Ivey
