CENTRE - During the October 25 Centre City Council meeting Mayor Mark Mansfield announced that the city was turned down for a grant from the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission for the teardown of the old Centre Middle School building.

Mayor Mansfield told the council and those at the meeting that they are waiting on a report from the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission to explain why the city was denied the grant.

"I am just guessing part of the problem is that Centre is rated as moderate income. We hoped to get the report in by the meeting today but did not have it. That being said, there are other grants available," said Mayor Mansfield.

While that was disappointing the city is moving on.

Mayor Mansfield said, "We will talk to Ladd Engineering to get us to spec and get a price for that project." "We will have something for your next meeting."

"Everybody thought we had a good chance, said Mayor Mansfield. "We felt really good about it from everybody we talked to. We had everybody working hard behind the scenes."

The Centre City Council meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
