The Town of Sand Rock is set to Hold its First Annual Christmas Holiday Festival and Community Christmas Tree-Lighting on Saturday, December 14

Sand Rock, Ala. - The Town of Sand Rock is set to hold its First Annual Christmas Holiday Festival, Movies in the Park, and Community Christmas Tree Lighting event on Saturday, December 14, 2024.


Sponsors, donors, and supporters for the First Annual Christmas Holiday Festival and Tree Light are Heidelberg Materials of Birmingham the presenting sponsor, the Lily Pad Florist, Rock N' Roll Sushi of Gadsden and Rome, Ga, Perry Funeral Home, KTH of Leesburg, Coosa Corner, Little Caesars of Centre, Infinity Docks, Amanda "Hooper" Realtor are the Bright Lights sponsors, and TMC Graphics and Signs, Jesse Parker Timber Co., Cherokee Electric Coop, Pharr Away Tree Service, Pharr Away Creations, Emblem Credit Union, The Medicine Shoppe of Leesburg, Leesburg Country Store, and Wildcat Academy are the North Pole sponsors for the event. Shinbone Ridge Custom Baits and Odyssey Fitness are this year's Event Supporters. Twin City Used Car Sales is this year's Christmas Spirit donor, and Happenings Inflatables is the Christmas Joy donor.


Taniesa Sullivan, Sand Rock PTSO (Parents, Teachers, and Students Organization) event coordinator said, "This year's Christmas holiday event would not have been possible if it was not for the Town of Sand Rock hosting the event, Sand Rock School Principle Mr. Ben East, and all the amazing sponsors, donors, and event supporters."


"Sand Rock PTSO has a heart for our school and little community and we wanted to showcase that this holiday season, said Mrs. Sullivan."


Christmas festivities will consist of the holiday festival inside Sand Rock Town Hall from 3 pm to 7 pm for children of all ages. At the holiday festival, children can write a letter to Santa, meet and have their picture taken with the big guy himself, craft an ornament, decorate a cookie, and have a cup of cocoa. The price for the holiday festival is $10 per child, $5 for each additional in the same family, and free for the adults.


They will also be having movies in the park from 3 pm to 6:45 pm, with the first movie, "Elf", from 3 pm to 4:30 pm and the second movie, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", from 5 pm to 6:45 pm there will be some seating but attendees are asked to bring their lawn chairs or a blanket just in case. The movies in the park are free to everyone.


Happenings Inflatables has donated a bouncy house that will be free for the children to enjoy from 3 pm to 8 pm.


The tree lighting event will begin around 7 pm directly after the holiday festival closes its doors and after the showing of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". The event line-up will start with local churches singing Christmas carols, the presenting sponsor Heidelberg Materials will be doing the honor of lighting the tree around 8 pm, and after the community Christmas tree is lit Santa will be reading "The Night Before Christmas", and around 9 pm the event will end with all eventgoers coming together singing Christmas carols.


Sand Rock PTSO will also have concessions at the park concession stand from 3 pm to 8 pm, they will be serving chili, hot dogs, chips, pizza, nachos, and cheese, popcorn, an assortment of sweet treats, hot cocoa, hot spiced apple cider, coffee, can drinks, bottled water, and more for eventgoers to purchase, prices will vary on concession items.


Sand Rock PTSO event organizer Taniesa Sullivan told The Weekly Ledger they have been getting word that the Grinch might try to show up at this year's event to steal Christmas. However, Mrs. Sullivan has assured The Weekly Ledger that they will have security and law enforcement at the event, just in case.


The tree lighting event will be free to everyone.
